Day Out With Thomas is a family event that offers children and their grownups the opportunity to ride with classic storybook friend Thomas the Tank Engine at heritage railroads nationwide. Matthew Sabatella and the Rambling String Band play traditional folk songs that celebrate Mark Twain's great American novel The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. It's part of the National Endowment for the Arts' The Big Read initiative, which is designed to restore reading to the center of American culture.

Definitely a show for all ages, though not a children's show per se, it will musically explore life on the Mississippi River and childhood in the time of Tom Sawyer, Huck Finn, and Mark Twain.

The National Endowment for the Arts presents The Big Read in partnership with the Institute of Museum and Library Services and in cooperation with Arts Midwest. The Big Read brings together partners across the country, including Broward County Library, to encourage reading for pleasure and enlightenment.
